Omega Mu Omega Chapter

In November 2013, four visionary Alpha Kappa Alpha women—Joyce Allen-Taylor, Jacqulynn Broughton Hugee, Sharon Rose Holmes, and Evelyn Sample-Oates, 31st North Atlantic Regional Director—recognized an opportunity to expand the sorority’s presence in Philadelphia by reconnecting inactive Sorors and engaging General Members seeking renewed sisterhood and purposeful service. Approved in November 2014 as the Philadelphia Liberty Pearls Interest Group, 35 members embraced the theme “Serving Communities Along the River,” focusing service across Northeast Philadelphia, Kensington, Center City, South Philadelphia, and surrounding underserved communities.

Omega Mu Omega Chapter was chartered on September 18, 2016, as the third graduate chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® in Philadelphia. Today, the chapter has grown to 122 active members and continues to expand its impact throughout the city and along the Delaware River.

Since its chartering, the chapter has been guided by four distinguished presidents whose leadership has strengthened and expanded its impact:

• Jacqueline Broughton Hugee, Esq. (2016–2019) – Charter President
• Dr. Milika K. Singleton (2020–2023) – Second President
• Susan Levy (2024–2025) – Third President
• Christina Young (2026–Present) – Current President

The chapter’s signature initiative, the Liberty Pearl-A-Thon, created in 2020, unites Sorors with the community annually for at least 19.08 hours of continuous sisterhood and service, reflecting the chapter’s commitment to collective action and meaningful community engagement.

Education remains a cornerstone of Omega Mu Omega’s mission. Over its first decade, the chapter will have awarded more than $50,000 in scholarships, empowering students and strengthening the next generation of leaders and high academic achievers.

As Omega Mu Omega celebrates ten years of impact, the chapter honors the vision of its charter members while embracing a future focused on innovation, leadership development, and sustained community transformation. With gratitude for its past and bold optimism for the future, Omega Mu Omega continues its unwavering commitment to sisterhood, scholarship, and service—serving Philadelphia with excellence for generations to come.
